SHPE National describes the SHPEtina’s mission as the program that “accelerates and affirms Latina representation at all levels of STEM corporate and academic leadership. Encouraging Latinas to pursue higher education and careers in STEM recognizes the unique perspective they bring to solving the world's most pressing problems while creating new, influential role models for future leaders”.

SHPE at Virginia Tech will uphold these values set by SHPE Nationals in order to engage Latina engineers and scientists to continue breaking down barriers and excelling in STEM. We will aim to address the importance of representation, imposter syndrome, gender bias, and discrimination to name a few at our meetings. For social events our objective is to form lasting bonds with other Latinas and allies while having fun!
